Apple - oddities
- Apple is the most popular fruit among the Poles. Statistically, one person eats about 45 kg of apples a year.
- Apples derive ethylene that regulates their growth. It can observed that green tomatoes will ripen quicker when you leave them near apples.
- It is worth knowing that brown spots on rotten apples are caused by patulin – a carcinogenic alkaloid. As this alkaloid is present in the whole parenchyma, you shouldn’t eat rotten apples.
